Brake fluid is probably the most neglected component on your bike.  An ideal brake fluid would be completely incompressible and withstand high temperatures without boiling. If the fluid gets hot enough to boil, gas bubbles can be introduced into the system resulting in a spongy brake or even complete loss.

Even the low quality stuff works well when it is new.  However, brake fluid is designed to be hygroscopic, meaning it will absorb water from the environment at every opportunity.  Since water boils at a lower temperature, this will decrease the ability of the fluid to withstand heat by as much as 1/3!  The only way to combat this is to completely replace the fluid in your brakes at regular intervals.

Scrub Components is now offering Manna, or premium disc brake fluid. We feel this is the best fluid money can buy.  It far exceeds the minimum dry and wet boiling point requirements for DOT 4 brake fluid and even exceeds DOT 5.1 specifications!

Scrub Components Manna has been chosen for it’s compatibility with all current brake systems that require DOT brake fluid. Please note that it cannot be used in systems designed around mineral oil!

All brake fluid starts to degrade as soon as the container is opened.  We do not sell Manna in large bottles for this reason. For optimum performance, you should not buy fluid in bulk and leave it on the shelf for an extended period of time.  Manna is packaged in 100mL aluminum bottles, rather than typical plastic. The aluminum container is much more effective for protecting the fluid from moisture in the environment.

So when was the last time you replaced your brake fluid?
